A Weed By Another Name...
If we look at the origin of the word "weed”, we find the Anglo-Saxon word, “weod”, which means, “little herb”. Herbs are good plants with many beneficial uses. Ralph Waldo Emerson believed that a weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. Weeds, wisely used, serve as important companion plants. Of course, they never should be allowed to overwhelm the garden, but a few left here and there provide a protective green blanket to shade and cool the earth. Remember, to truly pull out weeds from your lawn or flowerbed, you must make sure you get the roots as well.
