Healthy Schools/Healthy Children and Staff
Pesticides, toxic chemicals widely used to kill insects, weeds and fungus in schools, are a danger to children’s health. Because they are poisons, low levels of pesticide exposure can have adverse effects to a child’s neurological, respiratory, immune and endocrine system. Some commonly used insecticides, such as pyrethroids, stimulate nerves causing hyperexcitability. They are also associated with asthma.

Informed Mosquito Management
There is a natural way to control mosquitoes and the West Nile Virus. We should use products that kill and repel the adult mosquitoes but do no damage to aquatic life, pets, wild animals, people and the environment in general. Cities are using synthetic pyrethroids like Scourge and Anvil. These and additional resmethrin products are neurotoxins and dangerous to people with asthma and other allergies. They can also create new respiratory problems. These toxic chemicals have been responsible for creating insect pest immunity and even “super pests”.

Pesticide-Free Lawns
The world is rapidly changing and with it are perspectives on the use of toxic lawn chemicals and the hazards they pose to our children, families, neighbors, wildlife, pets, and drinking water sources.

Reducing Pesticides in Houston
We are working with other environmental groups throughout Houston, Texas and the rest of the nation to help create a healthy environment for our neighbors and all Texans and Americans.
