Brad Hendricks honored by The Park People
The Sandy Reed Memorial Service Award was created to honor an individual for exceptional commitment to The Park People and its work in the Houston community. This year it went to Brad Hendricks, one of the outstanding professional foresters in the City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department’s Urban Forestry Division. Having served in the Department for the past 10 years, Brad brings knowledge, experience, patience and great good humor to tree plantings in Houston’s parks and public spaces. With Brad’s considerable help, The Park People has become a major player in the reforestation of Houston’s parks. His knowledgeable presence is invaluable at every tree planting, not just The Park People’s events, but at all volunteer plantings in parks. His warm and friendly way of showing volunteers how to plant trees makes it a happy and productive experience for them --- and they volunteer again. In addition, Brad’s advanced knowledge of trees, their species and qualities, and his expertise at making precise measurements of trees have made him an invaluable advisor on the publication of all four editions of The Park People’s Harris County Tree Registry. In short, Brad Hendricks shows the same level of devotion and commitment to the greening of Houston --- and to The Park People --- as did Sandy Reed, whom we know would approve of the Park People’s choice.
